AVON YOUTH LEAGUE U’15 DIV 3

SUN 10 SEPT 06

THORNBURY ‘B’ 1

FRY CLUB COLTS 2

Our first away game took us probably on our furthest journey which on a very warm and sunny day was the best time to travel. Both Craig Andrews and Kyle Curtis were back but we were without Michael Payne and Nathan Dawson who were both suffering injuries from last weeks game. We therefore drafted in Danny Curtis from the U14s to give us a sub which proved a wise decision.

We started very strongly and played some very impressive football on another very large pitch. For the first 20 minutes we dominated possession and saw Thornbury suffer injuries to their keeper and 2 defenders which forced changes. Attack after attack and several corners couldn’t penetrate their goal but with a long clearance from their keeper up field, a momentary lapse of concentration gave their forward a chance and he poked the ball just under our keeper and it dribbled over the line. 1-0 down totally against the run of play. Controlling our frustration was now very important and we continued to create opportunities. With so many first half injuries we played 9 minutes extra time in the first half. In the 8th minute of injury time we had yet another corner. A good near post delivery from Mo Bouaziz found its way to Sub Danny Curtis who flicked it with the outside of his boot just inside the post to give us a deserved goal with seconds remaining.

The second half was again played a lot of the time in the Thornbury half. Craig Francis in goal was involved in little action thanks in the main to our wonderful defence of Danny McCarthy, Jordan Knight, James Hurrel Smith and James Boulton who were well on top of their attackers. With time running out though and frustration growing we just couldn’t net the winner. Again there were a few injuries which gave us added time at the end and once again from another great Mo Bouaziz corner the ball was hit hard and spot on into the box where James Boulton headed the ball into the back of the net to win us the game.

We won these 3 points the hard way but it proved we have the desire to work hard for the whole game to earn the win.

The whole team played very well today. The one player that kept it all together though and won us the match was awarded Man of the Match and that was James Boulton.
